Seghill
Rings and Legends

In April 2000 the Seghill Community Association was awarded a Millennium ‘Awards for All’ Lottery grant to research and stage an exhibition of pictures showing 100 years of change in Seghill. This book is an extension of the same project, to show, explain and catalogue the village, the legends and the people who made them.
Seghill can draw on at least 1,000 years of history and this book will remind the reader of its heritage as well as giving the community something to look forward to in the future. The village was built on the broken backs of thousands of coalminers, but as memories of our industrial heritage fade, Seghill, like many former mining villages, is changing and is entering a third phase of its lifecycle. Who knows what our descendents will think of us in 100 years time?
